"St. James's Church at Goose Creek." The photograph is by George L. Cook, a famous Charleston professional photographer. This particular photo is No. 47 of "Cook's Earthquake Views of Charleston and Vicinity." Cook did a thriving trade in these earthquake photos which were popular souvenir
items. Altogether Cook had more than 200 different earthquake photographs for sale in this particular collection. Some of Cook's other photos appear in the account of the Charleston Earthquake that appears in The City of Charleston, S.C. Year Book for 1886.
