"Craterlet chasm, Ten Mile Hill." Although the surface of the ground appears dry, and even cracked from desiccation, it was very wet the night of the great earthquake. A pole was stuck into the craterlet to better show the chasm to those viewing the photograph. (South Caroliniana Library Archives)
