Introduction

The purpose of this is to do some problems and to compute some more synthetics to illustrate theory.

1.  Text - Do problems  4 and 5  on page 3-60 and 3-61

2.  Determine the peeriod equation, e.g., r₁₁ = 0   for a the following:
    a) single layer over a halfspace with top boundary a free surface, with layer thickness H, and compressional velocities of a₁ and a₂ and densities rho₁ and rho₂, for the layer and the halfspace, respectively.  The second mddium is a halfspace
    b)  for the same model, but with the free surface rigid.
    c) for a single layer with a free surface at the top and bottom of the layer

3. For the velocity model that you used before,

• Create synthetic sesimograms  for a distance of 4.0 km, e.g., the dfile consists of just one line

• Compute the synthetics using the hprep96, hspec96, hpulse96 sequence with the following arguments for hspec96

• Discuss the seismograms.  Also compare the arrival times from the synthetics to computations - for acoustic rays in a single layer, use the Phythagorean distance to determine the ray travel time
