Field Trip to an Underground Coal Mine

Saturday February 22, 1997. The Geo-Club traveled to West Frankport, Illinois to tour an underground coal mine. Coal in Illinois is associated with the large Illinois Basin centered in southern Illinois. The basin is a thick sequence of Paleozoic sedimentary rocks containing more than a dozen coal seams.
