Titles and Abstracts
Why these two sections?
will be read the most often
the most difficult sections to compose effectively
1. Purpose
to disclose basic information about the paper
to help reader decided if they need to read the paper
A Title must:
be informative
use the most precise words
use the appropriate words
use words that can be indexed
to write a title:
start with objectives of work
pick a rough title
after the paper is finished, re-write the title
write and revise abstract and revise title
is it 8-12 words, or less?
use words familiar to someone outside your subject
An Abstract is
a brief account of the whole paper
an informative summary, with final results and conclusions
not just descriptive
