Assignment #1 - Format a Text
Document in Word
The text document ex1.txt has
to be formatted using Word (or other Word Processing Program).
1. Tips before you Start
- Use <F1> to get the Help; type your keyword
directly into the help box
- The following short cut keys are almost universally used
in Windows programs:
Shift Up-Arrow -
highlights the line above the cursor
Shift Down-Arrow - highlights the line
at the cursor
Shift Left-Arrow - highlights the
characters to the left of the cursor
Shift Right-Arrow - highlights the
characters to the right of the cursor
Shift Delete - deletes highlighted text
(saved in Clipboard) [Cut]
Shift Insert - copies (inserts) saved
text (from Clipboard) [Paste]
Ctrl-C - copies highlighted text (saved
in Clipboard) [Copy]
- If you make a mistake while editing, go to the Edit menu
and Select `Undo'
- Many of the most common formatting features are on the
second toolbar
- Move the cursor over an icon and wait 2 seconds to see a
help description appear
2. Re-format the text to the following specifications
Note that some words and phrases are underlined in red, some
in green (why)?
- Text Width 6.0 inches, Left Margin 1.25 inches
- Make Arial the default font for this document
- Main Title - bold, 14pt, centered
- Authors - bold, 10 pt, centered
- Author Addresses - italics, centered
- The subheadings should be bold, and not
indented
- Ignore the Tables and Figures, we will add them later
- Note the symbol for degrees (deg) in the Introduction
- In the section `Data Processing', we encounter the unit
`mugal' for microgal, it needs a Greek symbol. Later on
in the document we find more Greek symbols
- In the section `Comparison with ...' we find two
equations, use the Equation Editor Help to format these
- The references should have a hangindent of 0.25 inches
- Note carefully the use of superscripts ^{} and subscripts
_{}
- Note carefully the use of bold \bf{} and italics \it{}.
