Magnetic reversals
Olivia Jensen and I explored the possibility that reversals in the Earth's magnetic field might be triggered by noise processes in the dynamics of the core. Lacking the means to solve the full system of equations, we applied the method to several variations of the disk dynamo and showed that the method worked. Jack Jacobs liked the idea and incorporated some of the results in his book on the Earth's core.
