The Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, through the Macelwane-Blum endowment, offers several scholarships and awards for geoscience students. Students can receive these departmental awards even though they may already receive assistance through the
 Office of Financial Aid

  • Kenneth Brill Outstanding Senior Award of $500 is conferred on a graduating student with exemplary records of academic achievement and service to the Department. 

  • The Ross Heinrich Award is named after Professor Ross Heinrich who served the department in various capacities for over 40 years. The award is given to a meteorology graduating senior who in addition to keeping an excellent academic record renders service to the department. 

  • Summer Field Scholarships are available to help defray the cost of a summer field course.  Three awards of up to $750 are given on a competitive basis primarily to junior and senior students.  To apply, a student should submit a letter of intent to the Undergraduate Program Director by April 1.  The student should included in the letter the name of the Summer Field Camp to which the he has applied or been accepted, the number of credit hours assigned to the course and the dates when he will be attending camp.  Summer Field Scholarships are awarded after the student has successfully completed the course and had the credits transferred to Saint Louis University.

  • Travel Scholarships of ~$250-$500 are provided to help defray costs for joining major field trips, such as the week long annual department field trip. The funds may also be used to support student attendance of national or international geoscience meetings such GSA and AGU.
